Overview

The ‘lumbung' or rice granary is part of Bali's unique cultural heritage. Traditionally used to store rice under the protection of the goddess Dewi Sri, lumbungs are now seldom used because farming techniques have changed.

We discovered several disused lumbungs averaging 80 years old, and with minor adjustments adapted them into simple but charming accommodation. Of course we held a special ritual to transfer Dewi Sri back to the rice fields, but her gentle energy remains. Puri Lumbung Cottages set in the cool mountain air where fans / aircon are unnecessary. Our compound is designed in the traditional Balinese manner modeled on the sacred human form with shrines at the head, guest accommodation at the heart and other facilities at the foot. Guests enjoy spectacular sunsets and stunning panoramas of the rice fields and coast line in the distance.

The first of its kind in Bali, Puri Lumbung Cottages is more than a hotel-it is an eco-tourism project dedicated to the discovery, conservation and enhancement of the unspoiled area around Munduk. The people of Munduk village are involved as much as possible in caring for our guests. We not only provide employment, but engage them in activities that maintain the tropical rainforest and preserve water. We also encourage the young villagers to keep their cultural heritage alive with traditional dance, music and crafts.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Accommodations
The Puri Lumbung Standard Cottages are renovations of original Balinese lumbung (rice barns). All twelve cottages have a bedroom with an attached balcony made from hardwood, perched on stilts.

Family cottage
Two large newly built mini-home cottages, designed in the tradition of Lumbung (rice barns), but built of hardwood and stone. Upstairs main bedroom with double bed and smaller second bedroom downstairs. Both bedrooms open into a veranda overlooking the spectacular scenery.

Deluxe Family Cottage
Hardwood cottages with complete surrounding gardens and ponds. Master bedroom with double bed and connecting with another bedroom with twin beds. Large veranda on stilts, with gorgeous gardens below and mountains and valleys in the distance.

ALam Dewata Villa
The Puri Lumbung Deluxe Alam Dewata Villa has spectacular views over verdant rice fields, a dramatic valley and the distance sea. The villa features one bedroom upstairs with a lovely balcony and a twin bedroom downstairs, an additional bed room downstairs available for a family of six people.

Taman Puri Villa
3 Unit Taman Puri Villas located in the pittoresque village of Munduk nestled in the foothill of Bali. Taman Puri Villas has 7 rooms located at the best site of the area are landscaped facing lush greenery of a tropical garden. With complete surrounding gardens and ponds.

Taman Puri Cottages

The Family Kwanitan perfectly designed for family of 4 people. The main bed room downstairs with aditional twin bed room upstairs. Both room has their own veranda facing to Puri Lumbung tropical garden, completed with 2 private bath room with cold and hot shower.

Meme Surung Homestay
The For those visitors wishing to experience living in the Balinese home. Meme Surung featuring a combination of Dutch and Malay architecture, located at a quiet spot, off the road and up a hill in the middle of the village of Munduk about 1 km bellow Puri Lumbung Cottages.Meme Surung has 9 rooms with large bedrooms and attached bathrooms.

Pondok Tamblang Nature Cabin
Pondok Tamblang is a serene mountain cabin, located at the site of the Tamblang Sacred Mountains Springs project, set in a tranquil, natural jungle environment at about 30 minutes walk through the mountain trail from the main road of Munduk.

For more physical nourishment our Warung Kopi Bali Restaurant Serving traditional Balinese, Indonesian, Vegetarian cuisine as well as Western favorite. It has two stories and boasts a spectacular view of Mount Batukaru (2276 m), the second highest mountain in Bali as well as rice terraces, valley.

Arathi Massage

Mandi Lulur
The Balinese "classic" start with warm araminth whole body massage and a deep body scrub (spices and rice flour). All of your skin in treated and cleansed, and later rinsed in a luscious, comporting warm bath with Balinese flowers, to be complete with the application of natural body lotion.

Mandi Rempah
The traditional Indonesian "spice bath" start with relaxing arathi massage, followed by an aromatic herbal scrub, and soothing herbal bath with local spices. Finished by application of natural body lotion.

Yoga space available at puri lumbung
The hall was contributed by Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. Victoria Hall is designed for social activities and performances of traditional music and dance in keeping with our program to preserve local art and culture. The children of the village have been learning traditional Balinese dance here three times a week.

Victoria Hall is also a perfect venue for other activities such as yoga retreat up to 35 people, meditation, meetings, spiritual workshops and demonstrations of local arts and crafts.

Our smaller Yoga Hall located at a very quiet environment suit for a smaller Yoga group.
